"There are wounds that never show on the body, that are deeper and more hurtful than anything that bleeds" - Laurell K Hamilton.

This blog is to address a pressing issue that affects not only my country, India but also countless other places around the world – mental health stigma. We find ourselves ranked as one of the least happy nations at position 126 out of 136 as per world happiness index 2023, and it's time for change.

Psychology is not just about fixing people; it's about preventing further harm. Its concepts extend beyond its own realm and are vital in various fields that deal with the complexities of the human mind.

In our nation, the perception of mental health is plagued by misunderstanding and prejudice. We must realise that anyone – children, working professionals, the elderly, even convicted felons – may need professional help at some point in their lives. The struggles they face, whether in their past or present, in their work or surroundings, should not diminish their right to healing and support. WHO estimates that the burden of mental health problems in India is 2443 disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) per 10,000 population.

I believe in providing a chance for children to flourish and build their careers, ensuring that the elderly find solace in their final moments, empowering defence officials to protect their nation with pride, and giving convicted felons the opportunity to be understood and redeemed from past traumas. I am committed to helping anyone in need, breaking the barriers of stigma, and fostering a happier society. And I implore you to join me on this journey. Let's inspire more students to dedicate themselves to serving the world, making it a place where empathy and mental well-being thrive.

Together, we can make a difference. Let's erase the stigma, empower minds, and pave the way to a brighter, happier tomorrow.
